چکیده
The Gram-positive bacterial genus Streptomyces has two characteristic features; one is its productivity of a wide variety of secondary metabolites such as antibiotics or other biologically active compounds, and the other is its ability to perform cellular-differentiation from substrate hyphae into aerial mycelium and spores1'2). These phenotypic features of Streptomyces are knownto be induced by extracellular signal molecules produced by the organism itself. For example, A-factor, a ybutyrolactone derivative, is produced by Streptomyces griseus and induces both its streptomycin production and initiation of development into aerial mycelium at a concentration as low as 10~9m3~5). Involvement of a series of A-factor analogues6) as well as some polypeptidic signals7) have been observed with secondary metabolism and morphogenesis in various Streptomyces spp. During the course of our systematic screening targeting such extracellular signalling substances in

Desferrioxamine E produced by Streptomyces griseus stimulates growth and development of Streptomyces tanashiensis.
The authors previously reported that interspecific stimulatory events between Streptomyces species for antibiotic production and/or morphological differentiation mediated by putative diffusible metabolites take place at a high frequency. This paper reports the isolation and characterization of a substance produced by Streptomyces griseus that stimulates the growth and development of Streptomyce...
متن کاملBiosynthesis of kalafungin in Streptomyces tanashiensis.
The mutants of Streptomyces tanashiensis strain Kala, which were specifically blocked in the synthesis of the benzoisochromanequinone antibiotic kalafungin, were isolated and classified into seven phenotypic classes on the basis of the antibiotic activity and cosynthetic properties. The polarity of cosynthetic reactions and the production of kalafungin by a converter strain showed that the seve...
متن کاملKalafungin, a new antibiotic produced by Streptomyces tanashiensis strain Kala.
Kalafungin is a new antimicrobial agent obtained from the culture broth of a soil isolate of Streptomyces tanashiensis, designated Streptomyces tanashiensis strain Kala UC-5063. Kalafungin is a chemically stable, nonpolyene agent which is ex-extremely inhibitory in vitro against a variety of pathogenic fungi, yeasts, protozoa, gram-positive bacteria, and, to a lesser extent, gram-negative bacte...
متن کاملProduction of the new antibiotic tetrahydrokalafungin by transformants of the kalafungin producer Streptomyces tanashiensis.
The new antibiotic tetrahydrokalafungin was produced by the transformants of kalafungin producing S. tanashiensis and kalafungin-nonproducing mutants carrying the recombinant plasmid pKU523. This plasmid consists of pKU501 (J. Antibiotics 44: 995 approximately 1005, 1991) which contains the gene cluster for kalafungin biosynthesis, and additional 5 kb stability region of SCP2*.

Introduction: Streptomyces species are mycelial, aerobic gram-positive bacteria that are isolated from soil and produce a diverse range of antibiotics. Streptomyces griseus produces the antibiotic, streptomycin and forms spores even in a liquid culture. The gene cluster for the production of Streptomycin antibiotic contains strR gene that encodes StrR, a pathway-specific regulator. Then, this p...
